The Paper Trail Before the Blast
A suspected methane burst inside the headrace tunnel of NHPC's 500 MW Teesta Stage-VI project in Sikkim's Namchi district killed 22 of 25 trapped workers, with rescue operations continuing. Days later, it emerged that NHPC's own engineers had published a 2024 paper at EUROENGEO describing repeated gas detections and fires in the very same tunnel faces, reached through the same access adit where the blast occurred.
