92 of 210: When an Acquittal Is Legally Final but Morally Unsettled

On 28 September 2026, the Supreme Court agreed to examine the concurrent acquittal. Justice Bagchi said that whether the accused had a fair trial is a relevant question, even though two courts have acquitted. The CJI asked the appellant to place four or five vital witness statements before the Court. Counsel for some of the police personnel sought an early hearing, telling the Court the case had hung over them for 12 years.
