A Drought-Year Flood: Why the Gandak Breaks Its Banks Whatever India's Rainfall Says
Between Monday night and Wednesday morning, the Gandak breached embankments at Kharatwa Daroga Chowk in Bagaha, near Phulia Khad in Bairia block and near Makari Tesarahiya village. This followed a 5.43 lakh cusecs release from the Valmikinagar barrage. The flood came days after the IMD reported a 12.6% national monsoon deficit, which sharpens the question of what actually drives flood risk in North Bihar.
