When the State Holds the Guest List: Kullu's Gods and the Afterlife of Deity-Kingship

Deities began arriving in Kullu on 20 October 2026 for festivities running till 27 October, after the International Kullu Dussehra Committee invited a record 347 deities. On 16 October, the Himachal Pradesh High Court rejected a petition by a household deity, Devta Bansheera Maharaj Sidhwan, seeking an invitation and state facilities.
