The Ujjain Stupa India Found Once and Then Forgot for 90 Years
The Archaeological Survey of India has proposed a renewed excavation of Vaishya Tekri, a mound in Ujjain that a 1938-39 dig by the Gwalior State's Archaeological Department found to be the remains of an enormous stupa, not a natural hill. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, whose constituency includes Ujjain, has pushed to speed up the process and district authorities have proposed a Rs 40 crore land acquisition to secure the site.
